Another early start but this time it was 7:30 am. Rain started coming down within the first 15 minutes. It rained enough to get uncomfortably wet before it stopped. Today’s trip was a jaunt down 101. Lots of traffic, threatening clouds but no more rain. The worst part of today’s ride was going through the tunnel south of Cannon Beach. It wasn’t long. At least ODOT had cyclists triggered warning lights for the tunnel. The tunnel was uphill, full of potholes, narrow, loud, cars going downhill were doing more than the posted 30 mph speed limit and those going uphill in my direction not much slower. Obviously I made it through but it was not a good experience.
101 is up and down and takes you through Seaside, Cannon Beach, and numerous other small towns hugging the coast. The beach towns have wide expansive beaches and vibrant business centers though all are tourist related. Haystack rock is a sight to see. Glad to be in Tilamook.
