After taking two weeks off from completing a bicycling trip from Yorktown, VA to Astoria, OR and onto Pitt Meadows, BC I am getting to ride again. I preface this trip because I do not know how far, or how long, I will go. My major goal is to cycle the Icefield Parkway in Alberta. That is the road that connects Jasper, AB to Banff, AB and is rated as one of the most scenic and best road trips in Canada. Other than cycling the Parkway I would like to cycle to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and then south to Chicago. I am leaving late in the season (mid August 2022) so the weather will be unpredictable and the amount of sunlight diminishing every day. However, I believe that I am riding in a direction with the prevailing winds on my back.
The route that I have proposed is not mapped like Adventure Cycling’s TransAmerica route and other routes they have. I am on my own and will try to take roads that are safe, have access to resources, paved, low traffic volumes or with good shoulders, and take me to places that I want to go. It may not be the shortest route from point A to point B but it will meet the factors above.
I will go as far as I can. I will know when I am done. If I am done in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or back in the United States it will not matter. Wherever this journey ends I will be proud of my accomplishments. So, let’s the journey begin!
