Today the walls are coming closer. The trees are overhanging the road and it seems cooler. The mountains are taller and snow at the mountain peaks. The highway to Valemount is relatively flat because I am still following the Thompson River. I have been riding next to this river for days now. Since Lytton actually. Before I get Valemount the Thompson River veers to west and toward Wilfred Laurier glacier. Shortly after leaving the Thompson River I pick up the Blue River and follow this into the town of Valemount. Valemount seems to be the junction of a many valleys. It is a picturesque location.
Tonight was another night of camping at the Yellowhead camp ground. It is the first campsite that I encountered that has campsite reserved for cyclists and motorcyclists. The location given to me was almost perfect. It was set away from where the RVs are located, along a stream, completely grassed, and private. The only minus was the distance to the restroom. In the stream I could see fish swimming by. I don’t believe they were pink salmon because it is too early for them to spawn but some other rather large fish.
One thing that I did notice is that people in the RVs and trailers liked to walk in the area where cyclists tenting area is located. I still can’t believe a couple walked right through my campsite and didn’t say a word to me. Not a hello nor an excuse me. Later when they left they finally said something to each other. It wasn’t english or french so I will excuse them as an outlier in that I don’t believe they were Canadians.
