The rain stopped for a few hours and I was able to get a full day of riding in before it started. As nice as the Oregon coast is with wide beaches and interesting rock outcrops riding a bicycle down US 101 is not for the faint hearted or anyone not used to riding in traffic. For the most part the shoulders are good but when they are not it always seems to be on a bridge crossing, uphill, or in a tunnel. Today I experienced a narrow bridge in Newport and a tunnel south of Yachat. This is tunnel was not as bad as the one near Cannon Beach for it was not as long, no potholes inside it, and I encountered less traffic going through it. However overall there were more single family vehicles on the road today and fewer transport and logging trucks.
I made it to Florence right as the rain started. It took longer than I hoped but I stopped for more picture taking and also to get my feet wet in the Pacific.
