A new state. However this part of Idaho looks a lot like eastern Oregon. Looking at a map and my routed looks like a backwards “J”. Once I got into Idaho I was now in the mountain time zone. It was another hot day with the hottest temperature recorded on the bike computer at 111 F. The day started, like they all seem to do with another climb. This one only got to 4131 feet in elevation. Even getting up and over the height of Oxbow and Brownlee dams was a challenge with 9.7% grades.
Once I arrived in Council I did not really have a plan where I was going to stay. I could stay in the community park but when I went to check it out it did not feel right. Too many empty beer bottles. I ended up camping at an RV park for $10 under some apple trees. A few hours after I arrived 4 women bicyclists arrived. They were riding the off-road Weiser River Trail and each was pulling a trailer. It was good to have some company since I was the only person tenting this night. All were from Boise and decided to leave their kids and spouses behind for a 4 day road trip. Good for them.
Today’s stats: total mileage 61.7; average speed 10.9 mph; max speed 35.6 mph; total climb 3790 feet; and total descent 2560 feet.
