When I woke up this morning I knew I was going to follow the TransCanada Highway to Yale and Kamloops and not the Coquhalla Highway between Hope and Kamloops even though I knew the road was still closed north of Lytton, BC. There was a work around if the road was not open and that would be to add an extra day by going to Lillooet, BC. The overall majority of the traffic going east normally takes the Coquhalla Highway and since the TransCanada was still closed there was very little traffic on the road. It made for a pleasant experience riding along the Fraser River. However, it was hot. I under estimated how hot it could get and came dangerously close to running out of water. The town of Yale had a small convenience store but as I am noticing the convenience stores in Canada are mainly junk food stores with very, I mean very little healthy food. I did get something but not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North of Yale I became very dismayed. My butt was sore, I was dehydrated, and I couldn\u2019t get my body temperature down. I had travelled through 4 tunnels and they only got scarier and longer. The last two I walked through because they were bends in the road and I could not see the end when I entered each one. Fortunately, there was an elevated walkway to push my bike along. I was ready to call it quits right then because it seemed like things were stacked against me. I pedaled along for a few more miles and came across a water source flowing down the mountain. I had to stop and fill myself with cool water, soaked both my head and feet in the water to get my body temperature down. Once I felt adequately hydrated, my water supply replenished, and my internal temperature cooled I felt better and made my way to Boston Bar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Boston Bar I found a hotel to stay in called the Mighty Fraser. It was a nice place and had restaurant next door. The owner of the hotel must have felt pity for me for he gave me a cold beer when I checked in. It was downed quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today was a tough day both physically and emotionally. It was a short day but I had no energy to go any further. I wasn\u2019t sure if would go further, or turn around and go back. Today reminded me of my strategy from previous rides to avoid running out of water and eating a handful of trail mix even if I wasn\u2019t hungry. The towns are only going to get further apart and I can\u2019t bonk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
